Peak seasons: March–May and September–November
These are the best-known windows for trekking and flying: generally clearer mountain views and more stable mornings. They are also the busiest, so fares are higher and flights book up early. In peak seasons many Lukla airline flights operate from Ramechhap instead of Kathmandu.
Monsoon: June–August
Cloud and rain are frequent, so delays and cancellations are more likely and views are limited. Flights still operate when conditions allow.
Winter: December–February
Mornings can be crisp and clear but it is very cold at altitude, and some high lodges close.
Fly early
Mountain cloud usually builds as the day warms, which is why the flying window is in the morning. Book the earliest departure and keep a buffer day.
